Kitty Phantom Limb

Updated: Jul 14, 2019

Our cat had an accident and her rear leg was amputated to save her life. That's the sad part. She's adjusted very well and is her normal, quirky self by now.

So normal, in fact, that she still thinks she has four legs. She was sitting on the couch and had her head cocked to the side with a blissful look on her face. I couldn't figure out what was going on ... until I noticed the hollow where her rear leg used to be twitching.

Gracie was scratching herself with her phantom limb and enjoying it.

The pain management training I have attended has lots to say about how residual nerve impulses work and how to address the discomfort that many continue to experience.

And I'm ok with being sort of a jerk for thinking my kitty's phantom scratch was adorable.
