15 Second Rule

Neuroscience confirms that intense feelings such as pain, loss, cravings, and hate last in the body for only 15 seconds without reinforcement. 15 seconds.

This is why learning awareness, pattern interruption, and redirection can be so powerful! We can train ourselves to be aware of what we are feeling. We can catch and then redirect our focus for 15 seconds. This allows us the breathing space to make an informed choice instead of a gut reaction.

If after 15 seconds I still think a brownie is the right answer for stress then I'm going to have a brownie BUT it will be from a rational perspective, not some knee-jerk emotional response!
